Why Valletta?

The Maltese Capital of Valletta and the world of film have been associated for a long time. Not only is visiting the cinema and theatres one of the most popular activities for locals and visitors to the islands but Valletta has also been the setting for numerous major film productions such as Gladiator and the Da Vinci Code. With this kind of history in the film world, Valletta soon became a definite stop on the Capital Filmmakers Festival tour! The Valletta edition of the festival will be happening from the 27th-29th of September, so submit your film, come and visit the beautiful islands and experience a Capital with a rich history of cinematography.

Please note: The screening of Feature films (not shorts) in Malta requires classification. We can arrange this for you if your film is chosen to be screened at the festival but unfortunately we are unable to cover the cost. The cost is an average of 125 Euro per feature.
Both .MOV and DCP formats of all film types (both shorts and features) are required. If you need to have a DCP created, please get in touch with us as we can arrange that for you.

Some Facts about Valletta

The smallest european national capital

Would you believe that the capital Valletta has a total area of 0.8 square km? It is so tiny that it is the smallest national capital in all of the European countries. And it is also Europe’s first planned city. Now that’s interesting! It took approximately 15 years to build the city this way, which also makes it one of the most rapidly built cities in the world.

More concentrated historical areas in the world and UNESCO World Heritage Site

According to UNESCO the capital of Malta is inextricably linked to the history of the military and charitable Order of St John of Jerusalem. It was ruled successively by the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and the Order of the Knights of St John. Valletta’s 320 monuments, all within an area of 55 ha, make it one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.

You can fly to any European city in under three hours making it a perfect location for a quick getaway.

About Embassy Cinemas

All cinema theatres air fully air-conditioned and have stadium seating for unobstructed viewing. Cinemas also include an audio system with microphones and equipment to project a DVD or presentation material onto the cinema screens.

The complex includes 6 cinema theatres with the largest one holding up to 261 people. All theatres are fully air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible.
